Choosing a great restaurant in the greater Triad Area really depends on what type of food you are looking for. Here are some outstanding selections based on the type of food.
American
The Bristo at Adams Farms is a small quaint restaurant which is perfectly decorated owned by a mother/daughter team named Rhonda and Kristina. Guests will certainly enjoy the lemon drop martini and the crab dip appetizer is scrumptious. The filet mignon here is very tender and served with garlic mashed potatoes and collard greens.
Chinese
Those wanting a Chinese meal will want to head to P F Chang’s China Bristo which is a great restaurant decorated in an Asian Zen dcor. Everyone raves about the lettuce wraps served as an appetizer. The main selections include a fabulous gluten free meal.
Barbecue
Barbecue is a way of life at Stamey’s Barbecue. Try the chopped barbecue sandwich on the softest, freshest bun you will ever eat. The sandwich should be accompanied by the coleslaw which is very cold and crisp. The restaurant also features hushpuppy’s that will melt in your mouth.
Italian
The best Italian food in the greater Triad area is Pastabilities owned by Cindy Essa. The bread is crusty on the outside and very soft on the inside.

When you think of the Triad area what comes to mind? Two foods that instantly come to mind is Brunswick stew and fried cornbread. To make Brunswick stew you will need a 21/2 pound stewing chicken 2 pounds of beef roast, pound of lean pork, cup of uncooked rice, can of creamed corn, 11/2 quarts of canned tomatoes, a dash of salt, a dash of pepper and a dash of cayenne. Put the meat in a large pan and cover with water then reduce heat and simmer until the meat has cooked. Then grind all the meat. Next strain the liquid through cheese cloth. Then cook the rice in the liquid for 30 minutes. Add the corn and add the tomatoes. Cook for 30 minutes. While you are waiting for the stew to cook go to <a href='http://www.clearwirelessinternet.com‘ >www.clearwirelessinternet.com and get yourself a wireless internet connections that will allow you to surf the web for more recipes no matter where you are – even the kitchen!Does that sound like to much work? Then do what I do and stop at almost any caf in the Triad area and they will be glad to serve you a big ol’ bowl of Brunswick stew.Hopefully the place that you choose will be serving another traditional Triad food and that is fried cornbread. Fried cornbread done right requires being done in lard. Look for some corn meal made in North Carolina if you are going to make this at home

There are a lot of reasons to use local goods when operating a restaurant it promotes good will in the community, it keeps farmers and growers employed, and it harkens back to wonderful chefs like Alice Waters (Chez Panisse) and Peter Hoffman (Savoy). So while farm-to-table restaurants are nothing new, there is a new twist in the Triad thanks to Lucky 32 restaurant and their strong alliance with local and sustainable partners one of which has recently been in the news.Tim Russell started raising Malaysian fresh water prawns three years ago on his Caswell County farm (which used to be dedicated to tobacco growing). This year he celebrated his largest harvest to date and was able to sell a portion of his “catch” to Executive Chef Jay Pierce of Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen for use on the restaurant’s menu.Russell hopes to increase production of the prawns (which are described as “sweeter” tasting than shrimp) to help achieve a promise to his now-deceased sister that their land would be repurposed and once again become sustainable. And with the alliance that Pierce has in place with local providers, it seems like it’s a pairing that was meant to happen.

This locally-owned restaurant offers the best of both worlds. It’s only a short drive from the downtown area, yet has a scenic view and southern feel. Having served the area for over 30 years, Ryan’s has become a triad favorite. Last year this restaurant won a Diners’ Choice Award from Open Table. The upscale surf and turf menu offers some of the finest meat and produce around. The mouthwatering lobster and brie appetizer served over puff pastry is the perfect start to your meal. Mushrooms, sauted onions and barnaise sauce can be added to any one of their extensive selection of steaks, which adds a nice complimenting flavor. Among their specialties, the macadamia nut crusted chicken and grilled shrimp and New Zealand lamb are a few favorites. As no meal is complete without the perfect drink, Ryan’s offers an award winning wine and spirits list. Though there are plenty of moderately-priced wines, if you’re celebrating a particularly momentous occasion, some of their best wines will set you back a couple hundred dollars. The dark wood dcor and fireplaces create a cozy environment, and the back bar room and the boardroom are both great for private dining occasions and can be reserved by calling Ryan’s at 336-724-6132. To ensure you don’t have to wait, it’s a good idea to make a dinner reservation, which can be done online.Check out the Ryan’s Restaurant website for hours, directions and a full copy of the menu.

Whether you’re visiting the city for the first time or a long-time resident looking for a new restaurant to try out, Green Valley Grill is an ideal option. The slightly pricy menu has a diverse range of options for the simple and sophisticated palate. Start your meal off with one of their unique appetizers such as the zucchini, corn and feta cheese fritters or Moroccan beef meatballs. For your entre you have endless options including seafood, duck, lamb and choice cut steaks. Even though it’s easy to fill up early on with these delectable dishes, you have to save room for one of their desserts. Chances are you’re going to struggle making a decision on this front. Luckily the dessert sampler includes a small portion of four of their best desserts that is great for sharing and the indecisive. In addition to their lunch and dinner menus, the Green Valley Grill also serves brunch on Sunday until 4p.m. This creative and refreshing menu is equally impressive. And like any upscale restaurant, they offer an extensive wine list and provide pairing suggestions with many of their meals. Another unique feature of the Green Valley Grill is their Afternoon tea hours held each day from 2p.m. to 5p.m in the adjacent O. Henry Hotel. The elegant, luxurious design of the building matches the upscale taste of the menu. A large, open, Tuscan-style restaurant creates an inviting atmosphere to all who enter. When the weather is nice, the garden-style courtyard makes for relaxing, patio dining. And the best part is, no matter when you’re in the mood for Green Valley, you can always stop in. The restaurant boasts a 365-day-a-year schedule.

North Carolina is known for its impressive barbeque and even a bit of bbq rivalry between the eastern and western styles. The triad is caught in an awkward position with its central location in the state. However, that certainly hasn’t stopped this area from pulling its weight in keeping up the barbeque reputation of North Carolina.

Little Richards (Winston Salem): The original Little Richard’s, located on Country Club Drive, has been serving up some of the best pig in the state since 1991. The secret sauce is what makes this barbeque so divine and takes on more of the eastern NC style. This small, humble, bbq joint has incredible taste at an incredible price.

Stamey’s (Greensboro): The Stamey family has been in the barbeque business for 80 years serving Lexington-style barbeque right here in Greensboro. Part of the reason the barbeque served up at Stamey’s is so rich in flavor is the old-fashioned cooking style, using a coal pit to smoke the meat.

Country Barbeque (Greensboro): Known for their succulent ribs that fall right of the bone and generous portions, you’re guaranteed to walk away pleasantly stuffed, a belt notch later. The perfect glass of sweet iced tea and an artery clogging breakfast menu make this one of our triad favorites.

Mr. Barbeque (Winston Salem): Another area Lexington-style bbq favorite. Don’t let the unassuming look of this joint dissuade you. Besides, bbq joints aren’t supposed to look nice. While you’re at it, try their famous fried chicken.

Carter Brothers (High Point): The hearty portions of smoky barbeque and unbeatable cobblers make Carter Brothers one of the best in the area. If you want something besides the standard slaw and beans, pick from one of the many sides such as fried okra or mac and cheese.
